Depends on the ShorePhone model. They fit OK on the IP230, IP115, and IP265. But they do not fit well on the larger model phones. However, there is an add on piece for the Plantronics CS series that allows the headset to function without the lifter. There is also a headset model made that does not require the lifter or adapter.

Why do you want to use a lifter. Headset mode will allow the phone to go off hook without the need to lift the hand piece.

The lifter works if you are away from the phone.

If you program it correctly in Communicator then you can use wireless headsets (some Plantronics models such as CS50/55/70, etc.) without the lifter. You need the RD-1 part from Plantronics to make the headset ring in your ear - but it is far cheaper and works better than the lifter. Some other models do not need the RD-1 or the lifter.

Once programmed in Communicator you simply use the same button on the headset ear piece to answer and hang up the call, the telephone takes care of the connection and disconnect rather than the lifter.

I found one of those plantronics ring pickups and tried it out. Seems to work good.

One trick to hear when your phone is ringing is to keep the headset on and offhook. You wil hear a beep when someone calls. You could press the headset button to hangup (go on-hook) then press the button again to pickup the call.

And most importantly of all: make sure to change the off hook preference to wireless headset. This is done in Communicator, just click on the ShoreTel swirl and then "Off Hook Preference".
