We are bidding a system that will require a minimun of 4 and possibly 6 remote phones. We have not done this before on the SBX and I am wonder if any of you guys have done remote phone apps. Do they work? Easy to install etc. Thanks

We did a few VoIP telephones that a company had over a MPLS between sites. Very easy to set up, and they work pretty much like the digital sets.

Thanks. This app does not require MPLS? Just static IP address on the switch side and a reliable broadband connection on the remote side, correct?

You are correct. MPLS is not required.

Correct, the particular client had an MPLS network, but it is not required by any means.

Yup just a static ip to the voip board at the ksu. Pretty sweet selling point on them imo, can take the phone wherever in the world you want that has a data connection and it's like you're at the office.

Installed an Edge 8000 VoIP with the SBX320 and it was pretty straight forward. Get static IP address, Gateway, and DNS server address, MAC address from the phone. All flex buttons were easily programmed with SBXAdmin. The Edge 8000 started to work just like a regular SBX320 24 btn phone. It showed the same display. Paging, call log and other SBX features worked just the same. Station attributes did not have to be adjusted any differently so programming a VM box was as easy.

So, you guys are saying...we dont need a VPN? We can just port forward 5060-5061(is there any others?) to the VoIP board on the ksu? Also the phones can be behind a router doing NAT at the remote side and everything works fine? If so this would be a very good selling point and I could get salesmen using these right away!

Nat is a problem at the phone system end. A public static ip is the way to go...after all the idea of IP phones is that they are portable. They use DHCP behind any router but need to know where to reach the main system. If you use a public static ip for the SBX, you don't have to worry about port forwarding, just connect the voip card ahead of any firewall.
