First time posting. I am a tech guy, but phone systems are not my thing so any help would be appreciated. We have a Strata DK424 system with 22 lines– 18 of them in a hunt group. (I believe it is a PBX system, but I'm new to this).
We recently switched providers and have run into a problem. With our old provider we had the 18 outgoing lines show the caller ID information for our main incoming line. This was done by our provider on their end. After switching we are being told by the new provider that it is illegal for them to do this and it would have to be done by our phone system on our end. Of course the sales guy told us that it wouldn't be a problem, but thats beside the point.
My question is can this be done by our system on our end? Our normal "phone guys" are either not sure or they want us to upgrade our entire system so any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

You don't say if you have a PRi or copper dial tones, absolutely not if you have copper dial tones and you would have to have 4.3 software to use a PRi in a 424 and *68-2 might do that but it would be for the whole PRi as far as I know.
I'm not a guru on using 4.3 on a 424 but that is what you would have to have.

When you mention that you have 18 lines in a hunt, it sounds to me like you have POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service), copper, analog lines and not a PRI.
A PRI is a digital circuit (T1), where you would have up to 23 talk paths across a single circuit. You would also have "DID" numbers assigned to your circuit. You can, in many cases, manipulate the outgoing caller ID from the PBX if using a PRI. In other cases, it would typically show the main phone number (BTN) for all outgoing calls.
If non of this sounds familiar, then you likely have POTS lines. The PBX has no control over the outgoing caller ID dispay, just like you could not change the caller ID of your house phone's caller ID. I have seen some carriers that will show the same BTN caller ID for all the lines, and other carriers that say they can't do this.
