Come on Hal, do you think the world is going to wake up one morning and say "This IP craz just isn't going anywhere, let's go back to 1A2's, Merlins and Partners"?
I have no problem with IP or progress for that matter. Just manufacture systems that work as advertised and just as importantly follow the established telecom conventions in terms of physical design and administration. The Partner is no longer but there was a reason it was the most popular system sold. The engineers at that time, started with the 1A2 and continually refined the designs of future generation electronic systems making them simpler to install and easier to administer with plain language menu driven programming and a fixed feature set. If you are a small business that makes up 95% of the market, if the Partner didn't have it you didn't need it.

Today those engineers have been fired and their visions are out the window. The bean counters run the company and demand a mediocre cheaply produced product that appeals to the most customers with frivioulous bells and whistles and "glitz". Nothing else matters except sales.

The old guys from Western Electric must be rolling in their graves. How many patents were attributed to their efforts? About the only thing manufacturers can claim today is JD Powers awards for sales and PC Magazine best product accolades.

Progeress makes the world go round. Sadly IP is here to stay. Not because end users want it but because manufactures want it. All there R&D go into it. There is no turning back. These systems are mostly based on the feature set of TDM systems, plus many of the IP features customers do want.
Good, bad, thats just the way it is.
Blame poor voice quality on cell service. Poor cell service has become a way of life and so is IP Telephony's poor service.

Nobody is complaining about IP! I'm complaining about the greedy and incompetant manufacturers who put sales and profits in place of a well designed product.

I agree with you to a point Hal,... but would like to ask............
What is your system of choice these dayes, in other words, what are you selling?
Avaya, Pany, Mitel, X-Blue..........?

I have a saying nowadays...

75% is the new 100%...

I worked for BellSouth starting in '79. I may be an old analog dinosaur but I do miss the days back when anything other than 100% was not acceptable.

There is a chance I might go back with the IPO Partner if (and that's a big if) they ever get the problems fixed and it becomes comparable to the old ACS. That's only because I have a long history with it and have many customers that would benefit by a drop-in replacement rather than a refurbished ACS.

Other than that I would look at the NEC DSX or Panasonic. At least you can hang them on the wall.

Then again at my age I just might say the hell with it instead of banging my head against the wall.
