I have an Inter-tel 9.002 system with a full T1 with 3 digit DNIS. I have 5 fax machines going through the system on a single line card. When someone is trying to fax to our fax machine, sometimes it works, sometimes it gets a busy signal, and sometimes it gets a carrier recording "the line is no longer in service". I spoke to our carrier, AT&T and they were positive that it is not the T1 causing the problem. During the test, she called it once and got a fax tone, called it again and got a busy signal, called it again and got a busy signal, she then released the line and called again and received an actual telephone extension. Sometimes she will also receive a fax tone through the phone. This extension is the "catch-all" for the call routing table for our T1. This is also happening with other fax machines on our system. What would be causing this? It has to do something with the DNIS, but am not exactly sure what. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, if you call a fax machine and it answers then call it again right away, you wll get a busy b/c it takes fax machines a bit of time to hangup. When the call goes to the primary attendant, what does the display say?

I am fine with receiving the busy. It's the recording "this line is no longer in service" and the phone extension receiving the fax tones what bothers me. The phone that receives the fax tones\calls does not have a display, but I would bet it would say "empty or any" as that is what is programmed in the call routing table as the "catch-all" names.

Where is the catch all programmed to ring? Put it to a phone with a display like the Attendant maybe. Like superfoneguy said, the fax will be busy when calling it the second time.
You need to also look at the single line extension that the fax is connected to. See if it has a forwarding path assigned, and if it does find out where it goes. Also look at some of the other flags for that extension. Its possible that this extension might be part of a fax hunt group.
Just trying to give you some ideas.
The recording "this line is no longer in service" could be coming from your carrier, but i would check to see if maybe a CRA was created to say this for misdialed numbers.

The catch all is programmed to ring at an extension. When AT&T was testing the lines they received that person on the phone on her extension. There are no forwarding paths and there is no CRA created for misdialed numbers. There is no attendant designated for that extension in particular either. This is what baffles me.

Delete the description for the wild-card pattern in yer call routing table, then test. The display on the 'catch-all' extension should really help you out.

Had issues with fax machines failing to work - but only sometimes and in a random manner. As I recall from that site it was an issue with our flag settings. Take a look in the flags on the fax station that there are no camp on indications, DID/E&M receive busy instead of camp on and that you have an extended ring cadence. Good luck.

BaKaatz,
I looked at the flags and extended ring cadence, and DID/E&N recevive busy instead of camp on is turned on.

Well, what pattern in yer Call Routing Table is labeled 'EMPTY'? If it's the wildcard 'E', then yer provider is not sending you DNIS digits on that call, or is sending them too early or late.
