I have narrowed our phone search to Comdial MP5000, and Avaya's IP Office. Any feedback on systems would be appreciated.
Also any feedback on SIP technology would be helpful.

Are both systems IP only? I would be careful because there is more to IP telephony than simply having a phone connected via ethernet. You have to have the proper routers, switces and whatnot to make it work like it's supposed to....unless you are going to run a VLAN with, kinda defeats the ROI for a total VOIP system.

What are you trying to accomplish? these systems are completely different, MP5000 is a traditional phone system that has the SIP platform built in. If you are not interested in SIP the FXII can do VOIP for a little less money. I believe the Avaya solution is using all IP phones, where the Comdial supports digital, analog, VOIP, and with MP5000 SIP phones. To compare the 2 is not really possible as they are 2 different things.

We're seeing more and more relative large customers going hybrid. A large law firm with office all over our state looked at a number of all-IP systems and ended up with a hybrid with IP networking. I was supprised when I found this out. The telecom manager said they simply were not willing to take the chance on the overall technology of IP only systems and the open ended cost of installation.

Both are excellent choices, and both could be bad choices. Need to know more about your needs.

Both systems use digital, analog and IP handsets, as well as soft-phones. We currently have an older Comdial system which they are willing buy back, but I haven't been too impressed with the quality of their handsets. I have put in 3 other phone systems at previous jobs (Nortel, AT&T) but the cost of these systems are not justifiable.
My main goal is to provide a better streamlined system which will allow me to connect 2 support techs which live in different states back to our main phone system. This will allow me to centralize my long distance charges, as well as provide a more seamless call experience for our clients (wow I sound like a salesman).
