I have a strange problem and was wondering if anyone has heard of it. On inbound calls, the caller ID is being heard by the answerer as a "fax like" sound. I have heard that tone before when tapped on a line with my buttset but typically the users don't hear it on their handsets. The problem here is it is quite loud and interupts the first part of the call. I have set 14-02-23 to WAIT CALLER ID, but the tone is still heard. I have also turned down the receive gain in 14-01-03 to no avail. The trunks all ring in as normal and on *01 Trunk keys. I was thinking of changing them to DIL and using virtuals but if anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

CLID info to my knowledge should only be heard between the 1st & 2nd ring voltages on the copper line ( just tested here in Australia using but on monitor ) if it is heard after that then I would contact the carrier.

Thank you for the quick responses. The trunks are all copper and I have contacted the carrier and as usual, they seem "indifferent". I can hear the tone when monitoring the line and it is quite loud there as well. I was hoping that I might be able to adjust the phone system to match up with the lines so the user would not hear the tone. I suppose I will have to get a carrier tech dispatched to site so they can hear it too. Thanks again!!

Ive seen this before, it was the carrier. if they won't fix it you're stuck with what they give you. Get a new carrier.

Thanks Doghart for the additional info and I am pretty sure it is a carrier issue. I did one thing that seemed to lessen the severity of the problem. I disabled synchronous ringing in 14-02-17 and that decreased the problem to less than one time in 20 so the customer and I agreed that if it gets worse than that, we'll bring in the carrier tech. Thanks to everyone for the quick and knowledgeable responses and thanks to Sundance for hosting a great forum. Happy New Year!!
