Sv8100 is a great system. Check with the companies references and see if you can visit any of them. Make sure your comfortable with the vendor. You will be forming a long term relationship for moves, adds, and changes.

We have hundreds of 8100 systems installed and many of them in school districts. I have NO IDEA why someone would tell you to avoid this product.

I have all the confidence in the world in this product and its continued support.

The pricing looks fair, good actually, and as long as you have a CERTIFIED installer you should have a good experience with the product.

NEC is headquartered in Dallas, I can't imagine not being able to find a highly experienced tech there!

That's a huge price difference. We have installed both products in many applications (business, schools, lodging). Both are excellent products. What type of Mitel was quoted? Seems like alot for 60 phones.

NEC, Mitel, Avaya are all good as long as you have a good service support (specially after the installation ) . Nortel is at End of Life type of product so in the long term it would not be a wise investment , IMHO.

If you are in a remote area , Avaya might have an edge just because you would have a better chance to find some local shop for support . Good NEC certified techs are pretty hard to find, even in South Florida where I am at . Price wise, Mitel tends to be slightly higher while NEC and Avaya IPO is about same . If you are looking for more IP centric, Mitel and Avaya implementation is very solid , specially on SIP where the NEC is a little bit behind.

Everybody says that their competitor's product is junk. Cut through the BS and do your own homework. Out of the three, I would choose NEC over the others. NEC will be comparable to Mitel in terms of features. Mitel will probably steer you towards an all IP configuration as that is really where they play. NEC offers the flexibility of analog, digital and IP. NEC does a lot in the education vertical.

Ask all 3 vendors to provide total cost of ownership analysis over 5 years to include all software assurance costs, hardware warranty and/or maintenance contracts, etc. Ask for a price sheet listing all labor rates, trip charges, warranty deductibles, etc. Weigh the TCO against the other factors and pick a winner.

Mitel as a corporate entity is buried under so much debt that I doubt that they will even be around in 5 years. They laid off over 12% of their total workforce in the last 2 years. They need to focus on profit so look for expensive maintenance and software support agreements.

Nortel as a company doesn't exist anymore. Avaya will probably hold on long enough to burn through existing inventory and then they will be done. Don't expect them to put anything into R&D for feature enhancement. Sooner rather than later the BCM will be phased out.

Everyday! Beat them by breaking down ownership cost over 5-8 years.
