Howdy,

I have two networked systems via SPNet. A 7400 v4.60 and a 7100 v4.60. They are networked via IP over a private point-to-point T1.

The 7100 has had a couple occurrences where the phones will ring and when they answer it there's no one there and the phone is STILL RINGING. Then after a couple rings, the caller is connected. This will progressively get worse until they can't answer at all or even press their voicemail key. I'll then log in remotely and reboot and all comes clear.

Most of their calls come across SPNet from the other office. They do however have a couple back up analog dialtone lines. At first glance I would think this is an IP issue but when I've called them on their own local POTS lines directly on their 7100 it seems to have the same delay. They answer the phone, Hello, hello, hello and it's still ringing and then I'm connected just as they're about to hang up.

Any thoughts? A routing loop coming from corporate that's effecting their whole system? How would one trace that?

The alarm section on the device manager is clear.

It would seem to me to be network related but effects the whole 7100.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

As a test I would make call after call on the pots lines after you have rebooted the 7100 and see if the calls ring and answer immediately and don't set up a delay. At this time, maybe after 5 PM, not have any calls from the 7400.

This would at least give Samsumg a clue about a new spnet problem and where to look.

Also repeat the test with only calls from the 7400 and see if that builds up a delay quickly.

Some times you just need to have facts so Samsung can have a clue. This is a weird one for sure and a bit of clarity is needed.

Yeah, agreed. They had this once in November and once yesterday.

They're a hospital though and demand a written answer, correction and course of action.

I'm just kinda shrugging my shoulders at the moment.

Looks almost like a routing loop chewing up the proc memory?

IT could be possible that you have a bad mp10a. Have you tried swapping it out with a new one to see if the problem is cleared? I know lately we have had a batch of some that had issues. If it is doing it with the pot lines then it definitely is local and may be the processor. Have you also tried upgrading their software?

Just to be clear are, you are using VOIP to connect the sites not QSIG over PRI right?
There is an issue with QSIG over PRI very similar to what you are having, samsung flew out here to trouble shoot this on one of our customers a few years ago and never figured out the problem. We ended up ditching the PRI cards for MGI/OAS cards and all is good now.

Office A: 7400 v4.60b with PRI incoming service and an OAS card for MGIs. It is SPNetworked to Office B:

Office B: Gets calls from Office A. Once every 2 months or so their system starts to 'wig out' until I reboot it. When it starts they'll answer their phone but the call is still ringing on the very same phone they just picked up the handset on. After a couple rings, their phone stops ringing and they're patched through to the caller. It gets worse and worse and worse until I usually remotely reboot it.

It sounds like a routing loop is spirling down the system at Office B? I've called in the local POTS plugged into Office B and their doing the same thing.

Does the 7100 have DLI phones or Voip? I think I would have someone unplug the lan port when it is happening and see if the problem clears. Does sound like the network is clobbering the processor in some way. Maybe the router logs would show how much traffic is being sent to the 7100's ip address?
