We have an Axxess 8.2 system and we have been experiencing popping and cracking noise on incoming and outgong Long distance calls. I looked at the circuit diagnostics on our T1/E1 PRIs and one of them is racking up several million errors per day.

I did a system freeze and found the following info in the msg_prt_log:

Quote

I have had our LD carrier looking into it as well as TWTC for our PRIs, but no one can tell me what the problem is. Please help

Your T-1 is running dirty. It is unlikely to be the PBX equipment. I would get the carrier on the horn and start doing a loop-back test at the PBX, then at the NI. If you can loop the T-1 card to itself and you get no errors than it is the span, the NI or the extension to the PBX from the NI.

What is NI? I'm kind of an amatuer here.

NI/NIU = network interface unit/the provider's equipment. Depending on who you are dealing with, you might really get the runaround. Here's a suggestion to possibly narrow the problem to a specific channel on the span.

Get your individual trunk numbers for each of your T1 channels and starting from the bottom of the list, directly access the channel by dialing the trunk number, i.e., don't hit Outgoing, hit 94071 - or whatever the trunk number is. You'll get dialtone, then call someone NOT IN YOUR COMPANY to check for static/noise. When you dial outbound, you're grabbing the last trunks, so you might want to start there and work your way up the list.

Good luck!

Thank you for the info. I have had Time Wrner looking into it, but I'm not getting a lot of feedback, soI quess It's up to me. I will try your suggestion to see if I can eliminate trunks from the mix.
