I probably worked on this exact telephone. It is from the 32nd Precinct of the NYPD, and was Extension 28 on their 551 manual switchboard, back in the 1970's.

Interesting that someone added an A.E. handset with a cloth coiled-cord along the way.

As I recall, the BSP calls for a short neoprene cord for this model.

The A.E. Handset was the first thing that I noticed. I'd be willing to bet that it didn't hang up very well since their handsets were much wider than real ones.
