Wow, "connect two locations a Mile apart" I just google mapped my job site and my house - I can't imagine the logistical nightmare of getting a mile of private fiber (or even copper) across that many roads and properties. I would imagine the the cost of the actual cable would be dwarfed by the cost of permits, right-of way rental, etc. to actually get from here to there! Sure would like to know what he is planning, even though I can offer zero help.

Big difference between a pair of multimode, and, say, a 864 strand Pirelli or 1024 strand Corning singlemode cable. And then there's splicing and terminating all that...

What type of cable? What is it you're trying to do? Based on all your equipment and interconnection questions, you're in a bit over your head. I'm sure we'd all like to help, but you're going to have to describe the problem you're trying to solve for us to aid you.

In most circumstances, you could buy enterprise grade wireless and bridge the properties and replaced the equipment a dozen times (due to weather effects and such) before you'd even get close to covering the cost of that much fiber.

P.S.

My phone system quotes were between $25K and $60K for the exact same system and I went with the lowest price and programmed it myself.

What's that supposed to mean?

How about filling out your profle with some information about you such as the work you do, where you are from, etc. so we know who we are talking to.

raidsystemtech,
Ever hear of google? Its a popular search engine laugh. Type in the search bar something like fiber optic price. You just might find what you're looking for.

After reading all of this thread, I've come to the conclusion that the OP probably didn't like the quote he received from his provider for the "Service" that he wanted. Then he decided that he could provide his own service.

Just another ID10T thinking he can do anything and cheaper as well.

Good luck to you!

Well, we don't know the specifics but it doesn't sound like this guy has a clue. Unless this is totally on private property the cable itself is going to be minor compared to the other aspects such as acquiring right of way (forget about it, ain't going to happen). Then in either case there will need to be setting of poles or trenching. Cable and phone companies (the ISPs you speak of) have franchises with each municipality and pay $$$$$ for the privalege of using public rights-of-ways as well as hanging stuff of of another utility owned pole. So there is no way they are going to allow some IT "professional" to run his own fiber.
