While on a service call to troubleshoot a phone not working, (the jack contacts had corroded by water damage), the customer told me that the volume changes while on a call from the outside, It fades in and out. We did some test calls and I could not reproduce the problem. This happens at a Deli where ambient noise could be involved. It doesn't happen all the time. They do not have the problem with the phones in the quieter basement office. I told them to try adjusting the volume when they have the problem. Has anyone else seen this problem?

With all the variables involved, I am amazed when any voice and data technology works like it is supposed to.

With all the different carriers out there it's almost impossible to run down these types of trouble without customer assistance. They need to ask if the other party is on a cell phone, has an IP carrier, cable, SIP or whatever. It's quite possible it the same location or caller each time, but without the customer doing a little of the trouble shooting you'll never know.

To your main question, no I've never seen this on the X16. I only have one in a relatively noisy environment.

Thanks Bill. Because there is not the same problem with the office phones, I think ambient noise might be involved.

I agree with the ambint noise theory, but as you know delay and feedback on IP or cell is worse than on pots and can effect what you hear.

No problem with the office phones. Much quieter environment. I have asked the customer to keep track of what is going on with the problem calls, such surrounding noise level, cell phone involved, etc. On the one phone I checked and tested, the volume was way down. I adjusted it and showed them how to do the same.
