I have a CPS on a 4 cabinet system running Axxess 8.2. There is a high pitched whine coming from the CPS. I wanted to try rebooting the CPS, but am unsure if there is a shutdown procedure I need to follow. any help will be greatly appreciated.

The whine is probably a cooling fan. You reboot a CPS like you would any other Windows PC. I would recommend doing a DB backup first and alerting users ahead of time.

Yes, do a DB backup first...after that...
The first thing we do is (after alerting employees) is shut down the Voice Mail (EVMC) via the shut down button. Once the "OK TO REMOVE CARD" light is on, then pull it out (this removes power).
Next we turn off the system via the power supply, then power it on...wait, then plug in the EVMC.

Thanks to both of you. I am curious though, SFG you didn't mention anything about voicemail and Jeff you spoke of the EVMC.
What is the case with a voicemail SERVER? Does it need to be powered down first?

Jeff, thought you had the internal voicemail (EVCM). It is a card that goes in the cabinet.
No, the voicemail server does not need to be shutdaown first.
Good Luck!!
If all else fails, use a BFH.

I was inder the impression that you needed to shut down the CPS, not the whole fone system. You shouldn't need to shut down the whole PBX to run maintenance on the CPS.

Okay...I know my noobishness is showing, but I thought CPS was a typo for CPU...
Could you enlighten this newbie as to what a CPS is (I am getting to know the Inter-tel more and more...)
Thanks!

SFG, you were correct. I just need to power down the CPS so that I can try to clean the fan and hopefully eliminate the whining noise. I just wasn't sure if I had to power down the cabinets or voicemail server also.
what I am gathering is that I just need to do start --> shutdown from the Windows menu. I mean, since I'm not powering down the cabinets, I shouldn't have to power off the Vmail server.. Is that correct?

Yep, that's correct. Easy as pie. JJ, a CPS is a Call Processing Server and it's used typically in larger Axxess systems. It takes over call processing from the CPU/PCM-F cards and treats those cards sort of like slaves. It connects to them via a cross-over ethernet cable and 'speaks' IP.

I missed that, I only have one site that has 6 cabinets tied together. Thanks, for the info.
I got a new customer that has the 5000, Enterprise Messaging, SIP server, and net phone server.
If all else fails, use a BFH.
