I've got a Merlin PFC34 fax phone (picture a BIS34 phone grafted onto a fax machine) that appears to have a bad power supply. The phone part works fine, but the fax won't power up. It just squeals faintly and the "power" light glows faintly.
I know these things are rarer than hen's teeth, but maybe someone here has an idea of likely culprits or if anyone still does component level repair on these things?
Merlin is just a crazy hobby of mine - a Legend system lets me use rotary dial phones on Uverse.

Every once in a while.....one will appear on eBay. I'm not sure if repairs are worthwhile at this point.

Holy moley I didnt think any of these were ever sold.
Cant imagine anyone around to fix it.
The ebay comment might be a good shot to buy from and use for parts.

Well, rats! I wasn't really expecting anyone to have a box of NOS power supplies for this thing, but I'd settle for finding out how to get into it without harming anything so I can at least visually troubleshoot it - is anything burned or burst, and no stray paperclips, etc.? On the plus side, it doesn't smell like the magic smoke has leaked out yet.
Some paperwork I have with it implies this thing sold for $2,000 originally, and BIS-10 phones were $195 each. Makes me wonder what the rest of a Legend system cost back then.

Believe it or not, I removed one of these things from Lynda Carter's house (yes, "Wonder Woman") when we installed a new system for her about ten years ago. It kicked around our warehouse for quite a while and I'm not sure if we still have it, but I'll look for it within the next few weeks.
Our lease is up and we will be moving soon, so I'm sure that if it still exists, I'll uncover it at some point and offer it to you for a few shekels less than $2,000.00.

As long as we're in the neighborhood of 1,980 or so shekels off, that might be doable. I'll be spending enough on running the pair of extensions this thing needs, if I can get it working. If you run across any other oddball Legend stuff, I may be interested.
It's just a hobby, but it is at least a reasonably practical hobby. (And who else do you know that's putting a 1910’s wood wall phone on a Legend so it will work with Uverse?)
