Hi,
the other day, my land line phones stopped ringing but everything else seemed to work fine (I could call out and I could answer calls when I noticed the keyboard lighting up indicating an incoming call). The phone company tech came out today and found no ring on the Demark outside the house though everything else was OK. He said he'd never seen this before (this was scarey as his age would indicate 20+ years of experience). He went to a phone company box a mile up the road and found that a circuit board for my line was malfunctioning. So, now my phones are ringing but here's my question...
Could some of my phone equipment be responsible for blowing that board?
I ask because I was using some equipment at the time the malfunction seemed to occur. I have not yet re-connected that equipment yet.
Thank you.

No, you didn't cause a thing. This is quite common. Pair gain equipment that is located closer to the customer than the serving central office relies upon local power and electronics. Cards go bad, but usually, it is a ring voltage generator that serves multiple subscribers who are served from this remote terminal.

Hi Ed,
your reply gave me the confidence to reconnect the equipment. Everything seems good -- my phone is still ringing.
It is so great to be able to go on line and find folks such as yourself who share their expertise. Thanks a bunch!
