Wow, i've really been told a numerous things by several quality Nortel techs.
I am upgrading 6 Norstar MICS systems with Flash 2.0 VM.
They currently have mixed software. One has 5.0 and one has 4.1 that other four are all lower.
We are replacing M7310's with T7316e. The 6 systems probably 100 phones total and with whatever software upgrades needed there will be a substantial amount of $$ spent.
I would like to do it right the first time.
and not upgrade the 2 systems if i dont have to.

I need to know the first software version that came out that will light the message waiting lamps.
I was told by a tech support (supposed) Nortel person it has to be at least 6.1.
However i know someone who has 2 systems he says that one is at 4.1 the other 5.0 and they both light the m/w lamps on the T7316e.
That support person also told me the the non E t7316 has a m/w lamp but it does not light up ever at any sftwre level. Which i know is inaccurate because i have seen them light up.

Also with the E version, line one appears in the top left of the 2 rows of buttons correct?

The T7316e phones will work on all the versions but not to full functionality. You need 6.1 to work properly. On versions lower than 6.1 the line buttons cannot be put on the top three buttons of each column of 8 - only the bottom 5 buttons of each column.
I cannot say for sure about the MW lamp working on lower than 6.1 versions. If I had to answer I would say you need 6.1 for MW lamp to work. Anything lower it may or may not work.

"Message For You" indicator will display on the screen on versions prior to 6.1
6.1 is required to activate the actual red light on the top of the T series sets.

Curlycord thank you, but im pretty sure we have a MICS 4.1 at one of our sites and the recep has a T7316E and the lamp lights with a msg waiting. But i will double check that.

Yes sorry 4.1 is right for MWI Red Light
