I have a question about line and station capacities on the SBX. Say for example, I configure a system that is fully-loaded, including a T1/PRI card. Essentially, with the other cards, I will end up with 9 CO line ports, plus the 23/24 "lines" derived from the PRI or T1. Does this mean that I could have 9 POTS lines in addition to the T1/PRI? If not, what happens to them?

Secondly, what about stations? A maxed out system will give me a total of 48 station ports. If I add a VoIP card to the system, will I be able to add IP phones to expand to say 52 stations or do I lose four digital ports in the process? I guess what I'm asking is do IP phones detract from the total system station count?

Of the dozens of these systems that I've done, most have been very small where these questions are moot. I've recently quoted a new one that is close to being maxed out. The customer says that they only need to be able to add five more stations in the future, but you know how that goes.

I don't know of any way to expand beyond the count of 48 stations. Case in point - I have a maxed out SBX where there is a hot jack everywhere the customer might ever need a phone. What's the problem? I found no way to manipulate the system to use the modem once 147 was assigned to a jack.

IP phones do detract from the total count. I was told that you have to delete one of the cards (assuming you have a full station count via physical cards) in the configuration to have an IP phone. It's my belief that after the IP phone registers you can reactivate to only hog one physical port instead of being down a whole card, but I can't confirm 100% as I didn't want to use the customers site for a test bench.
