We've had a system working for quite awhile -- a person gets a voice mail while they are out, it is converted to a .wav file and emailed to them. We don't use the whole unified messaging email/fax stuff, just simple email.
Unfortunately while it has worked it always seemed tenuous. Out email provider recently changed servers (and even though host names stayed the same I think they changed some ports.)
I would like to understand where to put email information. It seems like there is a place for a host in the users notification window but there also seems to be a place in overall preferences.
Any pointers?

This happens a lot when people change service or move from a local exchange server to a cloud service.
First you have to understand that the Stratagy does not send out email messages like you would from your Outlook. It acts as a server and attempts to deliver the message directly to the server that has the email domain. One problem is now a lot of cloud based services will reject the incoming message for many reasons, primarily to reduce spam.
There won't be a quick answer. You need someone to look at the Stratagy logs to see why the email isn't being accepted by the email service.I have had mixed luck with cloud email services, but most of the time I can find a work around.

Where is the Stratagy log -- best place to access so I can start tracking from there?

Is this a PC based ES (not an embeded iES)? From the root it will be in the Stratagy / Message Logs folder.
Logs are only saved for 5 days.

I usually run a debug trace which is real time to see what's going on. Save yourself a ton of headache and call in a Toshiba tech to run the trace to determine what's going on.

Just had the same issue with an IES32.
Short answer is that the new service won't allow messages to be sent without authentication, which isn't something the ES mail server can provide, so the customer requires a relay server that will add authentication OR a Strata Messaging VM that has proper SMTP handling.

Unfortunately our phone tech provider is phone savvy but not really network savvy. (yeah I know -- the system is a network, has to integrate with other networks... and our phone person doesn't know about networks? They have their default setup and that's what works for them.)
We do our own network IT stuff so we know what needs to be done if we can get info on other systems.
We set up a local smtp server that is behind our firewall and doesn't require the authentication that the Stratagy can't provide anyway.
Now working.
Thanks for everyone's comments, much appreciated.
