Can't get an answer on that.

I heard they were caught out by Oracle withdrawing java 6 (how this it's possible I have no idea).
Why it's taking so long to write a java 7 compatible version I also don't know.
Oracle have a link on their site about apps not working with 7 but ok with 6 where they will help you.

It's not just dm, it also affects ipums.

Indeed, it's not as though Java 6 going EOL should have been any suprise - the original EOL date of July 2012 (one year after the release of Java 7) was actually extended to November 2012 then February 2013.

Given the statement from Oracle "Developers and administrators who need to download older Java SE versions for testing and debugging can download them from the Java Archive. These are not updated with the latest security patches and are not recommended for production use." it is poor that they appear to have done nothing to address this.

In the meantime to minimise the exposure on my PCs (unpatched Java 6 bugs are an excellent vector for viruses to infect machines) I create a standalone copy of the Jave runtime and shortcuts to invoke it with the standalone DM, then either uninstall or upgrade the main Java installation.

Can you send me the details on how you make the standalone install of java?

It will be useful for those customers who need java 7 for other apps

Evidently java 7 support is due out with the next release (just in time for Java 8 to be released)
