Hello,

We have a Axxess system with EVMC 550.5363 . The Hard disk was replaced last October and now the new one is failing. It is definitely a hardware issue. I would like to replace the hard drive but since it has OS/2 and the ADVAP app I am curious on how to accomplish this. Can I copy the partition from the old drive to a new drive (using for example partition magic) provided the data is readable? If not, how do I get the proper software on a new disk?
Thanks in advance!

I use an adapter to plug a laptop drive into a ribbon cable. Then use Ghost to move the image.

Are you sure it's the disk and not the fan?

It just seems kind of odd that a new disk would fail in such a short time (we've had EVMCs run for years without a problem).

Sounds like something else is going on...

Thanks for the replies!
No, it is definitely the hard drive. The company that installed it says there was only a 30 day Inter-tel warranty. That seems odd.
I am going to get the IDE 40 to 44 pin adapter so I can plug the drive into a desktop machine. I wonder if I can read the drive if I put it into a USB enclosure? I don't have Ghost, does anyone know if Partition Magic or DriveCopy will work?

Thanks!

If it is the hard drive, than I recommend this web site. They will put the proper ver of software on the drive. All you have to do is install it on the board.

Also, have you tried to reload the avdap software? What ver of inter-tel software are you using?

If you're only interested in salvaging the voice mail data, providing the drive cooperates, you'll be able to browse the drive if you connect it to a PC via a USB adapter. Just navigate to the AVDAP directory and inside you'll want to copy the DB directory (including any/all subdirectories). The DB directory holds everything voice mail related.

Once you get a new HDD, assuming you have OS/2 and the correct AVDAP software, you can copy the DB directory back in.

Of course, if you need OS/2 preloaded and don't have access to the AVDAP software, then you can try ghosting the drive, but any corruption in the OS files will be carried over, too. That's why I would suggest biting the bullet and doing it with a fresh OS/2 and AVDAP install.

If all else fails, buy another preloaded drive and ghost it before loading anything.
