Best results I've had was getting the telco to switch pairs, because the pair your line is on is "out of balance". Be forewarned that you'll most likely get the "Deer-eyes Look" if he's not an old-timer....

Have you tested the line at the NID to determine which way the interference is coming from? Is the interference coming from the telco side or the subscriber side? Have you checked the line for metallic faults?

Can you tell us what types of telephones are receiving the unwanted AM transmission?

Generally, an unbalanced line will not be the source of this problem. It is generally caused by the receiver or (more often) the carbon transmitter acting as an RF detector. The BSP solution for conventional (500 series) telephones is to place a 0.02mFd capacitor at one of various places on the network. Try between one of the receiver wires or one of the transmitter wires and either side of the incoming T&R. Or try other combinations of terminals on the network.

There is also an RF reducing induction coil that resembles a 44A block. I believe that they are MD by AT&T, but Suttle might still make them. The WE model part number was 1542A.

Google for "Suttle 1542A" and you will find several results.

Here is the BSP that describes the problem and the process: 500-150-100

Do a Google search for "500-150-100 BSP" and you will get results.
