We have a DXP. Each of our voice prompts go to a certain Hunt Group, for instance 501 which has certain stations and set for RING ALL. If no answer, it rolls over to a second Group 511 which includes the same stations and a few more. If still no answer, it overflows to Voicemail. However, lately when we check those messages most are just "dead air". Does this mean that by the time it goes to voicemail, the caller has hung up? Does the number of rings to answer that each station user has configured make a difference? Any recommendations?

The generally accepted pain threshold for callers is 4-5 rings..any longer than that most folks hang up. After 4 -5 rings without an answer or voice mail you are probably losing business because people figure you are under staffed, not open, or don't care enough to field their calls.

Your dead air calls probably have a time stamp from the voice mail. You can pull your SMDR records and compare..bet you'll find calls dropping off after 30 -45 seconds of open ringing.

I'd definitely reevaluate why calls aren't being answered on a ring all hunt group and then forwarding to another nonresponsive group.

Do the Station Hunting Timers (i.e Call Advance ) have anything to do with a group that is "RING ALL"? If not, where is the amount of time to wait for an answer set?

Sure does. Don't know what software release you have on the DXP..later versions have a help file to explain features and interactions.

We have a DXP Rev. 12A. I think my confusion came in when the manual said "If that station does not answer within the programmed call advance time, the system delivers the call to the next sequential idle station programmed in the hunt group." And that "Ring all station hunting is not a true hunting method."

So, does that mean that the "Call Advance" does not apply but the others do?

"Ring all station hunting is not a true hunting method." In Telephony in order to hunt you must leave a call terminated at a station after a predetermined time to another. By definition "ring all" violates that as all ring and it doesn't hunt anywhere- hence not a true hunt method.

Call advance and overflow timers for a group are a different animal.
