When you say 4 port, there could be 2 cords and it would be a 4 port, but if you have 4 cords coming into it, that would be an 8 port.

Many people think of one cord, one port, but nortel gives you two conversations on just one pair of wires.

Not challenging curly, just trying to note if you have two or four cords going into the NAM, not everyone think alike on ports.

For some this will make it a little more clear.
For others it may muddy the water.

One person uses 1 channel.
One port gives you 2 channels.
One line cord...... that depends on the voice mail unit.

NAM - one line cord - one port - 2 channels - 2 users
Call Pilot-100 - one line cord - one port - 2 channels - 2 users.
Call Pilot-150 - one line cord - two ports - 4 channels - 4 users.

Correct.
And in more words to help get rid of the mud...
They are called "channels" on vmails, not "ports" which are on the KSU.
1 Channel on vmail uses one channel on KSU.
1 KSU port has an A and B channel.

People mistakenly call it a "4 port" mail but most of us know that they mean.
JTELL posted 4 dots (....) which means 4 channels.
4 A's means Available, you can activate them with a key code.
Stars mean you need hardware upgrade, an MS-PEC card installed to allow for 8 more channels then you can key code those too.

"but if you have 4 cords coming into it, that would be an 8 port."
So the correct term is 8 Channel
