I just replace a failed Axxent System without Voicemail with an AXXENT 520.2040 v2.00-01, with Voicemail. Both systems include (2) LSCs, (1) DKSC, and (1) DKSC-12.

The new installation works with either the "default" or the "backup" data base from the prior system. We can make and pickup calls to/from outside numbers and to/from stations.

**BUT** whenever anyone on any keyset pushes a feature key, the whole system freezes, and after 10-20 seconds a "Major Alarm" is displayed. Also, after about 30 minutes of no activity the system also freezes. In either situation, after hitting reset (once or sometimes twice), the system goes back to its (semi-)working state.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What version is the saved database from?

How does it run if you default it without reloading a saved database?

What does the error log show?

Bad PAL maybe?

UPDATE: I have disconnected power to the voicemail hard-drive and defaulted the system. It now seems to be working fine (including all features) for about 24 hours at a time. It seems to fail after placing an outside call and the line does not get released (hung up).

In answer to RCA inquiries: Both systems are the same verion V2.00-01. See above regarding defaulting the database. Regarding the error log: I am afraid to try to connect the DB console to the system because that's what I was doing when the first system crashed. (It loaded to about 65% and then froze). They have been limping along with analog phones connected directly to company lines so I don't want to risk crashing this system at the present time.

To C_C: Wouldn't a bad PAL effect the system all the time?

Telcom Wizard,

Drew_Ryan asked from your previous thread (that is now locked) if you had moved your old PAL over? Wich would be that Mem circuit board that snaps in just below the DB battery.

Try to connect to the Axxent with your laptop and get the error logs. If you think it will freeze, then disconnect the cabling from the cabinet, maybe at the end of your day. The error logs will point you in the right direction.

The Axxent can be flakey if the cards arent seated properly, especially the Mem card. I would double check that all cards are seated properly. If you have to, turn the system off, pull out and then re-seat each board.

A bad PAL on a flakey Mem board can do wonders to an Axxent. Thats why you need to get those error logs.

I agree with RCA. The PAL can effect many things. You need to reseat all the cards and try to get into DB and get the error logs. Also check all the other connectors inside the cabinet.

I have seen the PAL "walk" slightly within the socket, which causes all sorts of wierd stuff.

Reach in there and squeeze that chip into the socket good and hard. Chances are, you will hear the tell-tale sound of the chip snapping into place. Then see how it works.
Note: Power down the system before attempting this!
