Amigos/Amiga's,

Recently, we have been experiencing an issue with voice mail not picking up *any* forwarded extension.

In other words, If Ext. 1234 is forwarded to ext. 5678, voicemail will *NOT* pickup if 5678 doesn't answer. This seems to be happening Globally across all extensions that are currently forwarded to another phone.

Interestingly enough, the Voicemail system is functioning correctly (*unforwarded* extensions unanswered/DND/ETC) roll correctly into voicemail.

I did look at Studio DB, and don't see any apparent changes to our System Settings and Forwarding Paths.

Any input would be humbly appreciated.

Thanks!

Dave Del

Your system is working normally.

Manually forwarded extensions never forward to voicemail unless the destination station is manually forwarded to voicemail.

The reason calls to 'non-forwarded' stations go to voicemail is because of a feature applied to stations called 'System Forwarding'. System Forwarding is superior to manual forwarding in day-to-day operation because you can determine what types of calls forward versus what state the station is in versus Day and/or Night mode.

Superfoneguy,

With that said, would you be able to recommend a best practice for such a scenario, where a manually forwarded station would roll into the destination stations voicemail after a no answer?

Thanks in advance..

Dave

So, you want the caller to hear the destination's VM, not the originating station's, VM?

You will have to build a Call Routing app w/ no greeting that times out at the mailbox you wish the caller to hear. Then build a hunt group w/ the destination extension as the only member and the call routing app as the 'Recall' destination. Adjust the 'Recall timer' for about how many rings you think you'll need and forward the originating station to the hunt group.

Wow, I didn't realize the complexity behind this added functionality.

Question: As an alternative, would it be any easier (and scalable) to implement a solution where the caller hears the source stations VM when the destination station is a no answer?

THanks again Superfoneguy!

Dave

That's the way it is designed as long as the destination station is manually No-Answer forwarded to voicemail. Example:

Ext. 100 manually forwards Immediate to ext. 101. Ext. 101 manually forwards No-Answer to voicemail. A call will attempt to ring ext. 100, but will immediately be forwarded to ext. 101, which will ring. When the Forward No-Answer timer expires, the call will forward to voicemail box 100. This is the case whether you forward to one or multiple locations.
