Hi folks. I'm pretty well versed in NEC (25 years of key, PBX and voicemail) but I'm stumped on something.

Customer's existing paging was connected to a trunk port on the 2400 IMX that I just pulled. The 2400 was connected via a trunk port but I had no success in connecting the 8300 the same way. (I think the 2400 was providing a few volts for talk battery.)

I installed a PGD(2) and programmed it up. When I call it seems to "answer" with a higher pitched dial tone for about two seconds, then a very brief interruption to the dial tone and its just slight lower volume-wise.

It seems that dialing any 4 digits at this point stops the dialtone, but doesn't output paging on the RCA port. Of course NTAC is closed now and I'm hoping to resolve this tonight and for future installers with a similar problem.

Thanks for your input.

I think you are confused unless the PGD works different on the 8300. The PGD only does 600 ohm balanced and will not send DTMF to to that page zone unit. If that unit is providing talk battery, and awaiting the zone page codes, you have to set it up on a trunk port. All you are going to do is ruin that page adapter. Chances are you need to set that trunk to ignore DTMF detect to get it to work properly for paging.

I found this information on the NEC forum, use a CO port for paging with these basic bits flagged as indicated:

35001- 2

35004- 1

35005- 0

35008- 1
