We have a voice mail running on server 2008, when we attempt to do a backup of the system using the backup and restore utility, we cannot configure any applications, the box has none in it.

This happens when we try to run locally or remotely

We can run this just fine on all of our XP boxes.

Any thoughts?

hey,
i just noticed this on ours running windows 7 64bit.

first thing to try, would be to install the latest version available. supposedly there are issues with one of the older versions.

second thing might require a registry fix.
for some reason the registry key named "BackupServicePath" at HKLM/Software/Wow6432Node/TAIS/BackupService contained "C:\Program Files\TAIS\BackupRestore" rather than the correct path "C:\Program Files (x86)\TAIS\BackupRestore"

changing it to the correct path (as confirmed by browsing to that directory in explorer) caused it to go from showing 0 applications to showing the ones installed on the MAS (ACD, Taske, ...)

a restart of the service was necessary after changing the registry. this can be done from a command prompt (as administrator) by issuing:
net stop BackupService
net start BackupService

then, clicking "Connect" again in the backup utility should list the applications in the dropdown.

i'm not 100% sure why this happened but i have a suspicion that when the backup program was used to restore the data from the previous Windows XP install, that it might have during the restore overwritten that registry entry with the incorrect value.

thanks,
-matt
