Got this from a customer.
They have Verizon for POTS dial tone and Earthlink for 800 service.

“I received an enormous phone bill from our 800 number and have asked EarthLink to credit several of the charges that occurred late at night or on the weekends that I know were not calls received by us. In speaking with her she asked me what happens when someone calls in to our vm system, and doesn’t press 1 for our answering service or doesn’t select an extension to be sent to. Does our system terminate the call after any period of time? I am going to go with “no” because I have some calls on our bill lasting 763 minutes, 1372 minutes and so on.”

I’ve tested their 800 number, no entry, bye. Tested it three times. How can someone stay connected for this long without leaving any footprints ??
Nothing in VM activity in the mailboxes
We don’t allow LD calls on outcall of MBX and EXT
We’ve restricted the VM ports altogether.

I’ve now turned on CO-CO TM and set the timer to 10 minutes, just in case.

I’m baffled.

The LD bill has an assortment of CID numbers, which I can restrict, but ??????

Thanks

It's probably Toll Free Traffic Pumping. I had a customer that had their CID spoofed. People were actually calling on around the country as my customer trying to get personal info. While working on it, the carrier sent me the bulletin put out by the FBI. I can't find the actual bulletin but the below link has copy and pasted the first page in their blog. I can't really help you resolve it because as I said, this wasn't the exact issue I was working on. But you're probably going to have to open up a case with the FCC (Not the FBI). Its bureaucracy in its purest form.
