VoIP systems are completely at risk. Those that use SIP trunking are a ticking time bomb.

Aside from the big bills, where are these calls being directed to? I went on a service call about a month after 9/11 to an ad agency that was in downtown Buffalo. The agency had closed, but the system, an Altigen, was still live as calls to the main number were being directed to their main office out of town. Well someone had hacked into it and set up a virtual extension so call forward to a number in Pakistan. Sprint, their long distance carrier, had notified the customer of calls that were hours long being made over the weekend. As i arrived on site, I could see a call coming in on the PRI and trying to forward off premise to this overseas number. I would merely point and click and boot the call off. After them trying to repeat the call and me booting them off a few more times, I shut the thing down for good and unplugged it. i wanted to contact the FBI, but was overruled. May have been something, may have been nothing, who knows. Point being, don't take hacking for granted.
