Good Afternoon, and thanks for the forums. I'm having an issue installing sys programer 1.2.14.27 on a windows 7 x86 laptop. I am setting this up to test an external connection to the system, and like others (browsing these forum) I'm getting an Unhandled exception when trying to add or change a site.
The following is what I have tried thus far to rectify this issue:
Run as Admin / Compatibility mode XP/Vista
Uninstall program and delete appdata/roaming/ESI Programer folder
Copy the install folder to the desktop from software share and re install
Update .net framework to latest version (4.5.1)
Thanks
Error Below:
"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Unable to get the window handle for the 'AxEsiCom' control. Windowless ActiveX controls are not supported." ee the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

There is a tech bulletin on the ESI resellers site that has a fix that sometimes works sometimes doesn't.
It's deals with turning DEP off in windows to allow the program to run.

Ok, so I ran: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
however it's cmd said that the "data type specified is not recognized, or does not apply to the specified entry."
I ran the cmd again and dropped the ".exe" and got the same thing. Not sure on this.
**Edit** I think it's something to do with that laptop. Something about ActiveX controls.

You have to "RUN AS Administrator" as well did you try that?
I understand your frustration. Had a client with 4 sites that used the Admin version for years got a new laptop and turned in to a S#@! show trying to get it to run on his new laptop. We ended up firing up his old PC and let it set in the data closet he remotes to it and uses it because we spent WAY too much billable time trying to get the ESI application to work without much help from ESI.

Get the free app "Take Ownership," install it on the computer, and then launch it to take ownership of the Program Data and the Windows directories and all Windows sub directories. I messed with this problem for hours and found this little gem and it works perfectly. You will probably not get the error when trying to run DEP after you take ownership. Click Here Rcaman
