Is it possible? Specifically, I'm wondering if the Mitel 5540 IP console could be made to work with Asterisk. Or is that asking too much?

I have used the 5224 phones with Asterisk. They work very well. You just have to change them from MiNET mode to SIP mode.
As for the 5540, I couldn't give a definite answer. I would think you would just need to find the right firmware. I'll leave that for someone else who knows Mitel better than me to answer.

Thanks for the input. I've been poking around quite a bit on this question. Apparently this console performs function that are present only in the Mitel SIP implementation. I'll let you know if I have any luck!
Thanks!

No worries, I'm just excited I could be the one to provide an answer rather than ask for one
