Putting a call on hold doesn't introduce anything into the phone line. I have seen other manufacturer's systems drop lines on hold because there isn't enough loop current to maintain the line seizure. I've never seen this occur on any XTS equipment and you do appear to have ruled out the LCOBs. Have you checked the loop current between an active call and a call on hold? Have you tried Derrick's button test yet?

I am pretty sure you have a time slot failure....have you reset the system?

You know unused co lines can be programmed as MOH sources. Is it possible that was done at some point and now the line is live again? If so the system maybe connecting the co as MOH when you put someone on hold, they would get dialtone and then the line times out and starts howling. I bet the caller on hold might be able to dial a number!

MOH ports 1 and 2 are on the MISB card. That card could have tdm errors.

I started to ask if you had an MISB installed, because missing will cause this is if MOH is enabled. I didn't think of it at first because the MISB came standard with all systems for years.

Derrick - good job! I didn't even think about MOH. And ditto on the MISBs. I can't recall that I ever had a system installed without one. I even still have spares because I always ordered packages whenever I needed an expansion KSU. They were basically free at that point.
