Could someone point me in the right direction? Our CEO wants to use UM, but I am very new to working with Inter-tel 9.002 db s/w. I have setup the email box, copy/forward settings, smtp ip address, and admin name and password on the db side. We run groupwise as our email client. I am testing my acount, and I do not get emails from the system. What did I miss? The documentation is pretty bad. thank you

You are going to be limited using Groupwise as far as UM goes actually severely limited. UM in it's fullest form will work only with Outlook. If you are ok with siimply forward/copy as stated, then there is no installation that is required at the client level as the UM server is simply going to send an email to the configured email address in the mailbox with a .wav attachment. It is important to note that this configuration is not truly "unified" meaning that if the user deletes the message from the inbox, it will still appear as a new message in the user's vmail mox and vice versa. If you are confident that you have configured the Fax/Email gateway fields properly in DB Studio and it does not work, try to run Outlook Express on the UM server with the same config and verify that you can send and receive mail from OE. If you can, then there is something not configured properly in the fax/email gateway settings. Alternatively, you could test from the UM box by opening a telnet session to the mail server on port 25 and issue SMTP commands to verify that you can send mail from that server. Google it, if you are not familiar with SMTP commands.

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to look for the smtp commands. I'm not sure that I set it up correctly at all. I was thrown into this without much knowledge of what I have to do, and I'm winging it. I followed the admin's guide and the online help, but that's it.
Would it be possible to list the fields or screens that need entries?

Email System should be set to SMTP/POP3 Email Address should be the email address of the mail account that UM should use Email Real Name can be anything but will appear as the from in emails Email Username is the mailbox username to be used to send mail Email SMTP Server= hostname or IP of mail server Email POP server= hostname or IP of mail server Administrator Email Address should be any email addy other than the email address specified in the email address field Gateway Password is the mailbox password used to send mail
I always suggest that in the mail server all mail received to the UM mailbox name be forwarded automatically. You dont want messages piling up in the inbox for that account. It wont necessarily cause harm using SMTP/POP3 but it will waste msg store space for no good reason.
