I have a WE 2564 with a 35a3a dial. One tone bank is quite a bit off. I can push the generator in and the tone gets close. Adjustment doesn't do anything to change the tone. The generator is a bit loose. Is it repairable? Will a 35af3a  work in its place?

Just about all my 2564 sets have the 35af3a dial. In fact most of my older sets have that dial. Yes it can work. I'll have to dig up the BSP for the wiring diagram, but if you can find it, it's a pretty simple swap. I'm not familiar with the 35a3a dial, but most of the WECO dials I have are all similarly wired with mostly identical color codes. The only exception is dials made for speakerphones, but they will have extra leads, that -I think- can just be insulated and stored. This schematic is from a 2852 set, but it should be pretty much the same:

these will be dial lead color to connection point, usually on the network.

green-F, orange-2 on TB, black-RR, red-T, red/green-R, wht/blu-S, white-GN, blue-B, green/wht-C, violet-L1, org/blk-C

YMMV, I don't have a schematic for a WECO 2564 on hand, only for an ITT. This should get you close.

You are correct. The orange, orange/black, violet and green/white leads were used for speakerphone applications. They can be insulated and stored. All other leads are identical in function and connection.
