I three CIX1200 systems that are network via IP on my main campus. We have about three hundred Spectralink phone that use analog line coming from these systems.
My VP/CIO would like to do away with the Spectralink phones and replace them with a system that users an app on smartphones with an extension coming from the three CIX systems.
Can anyone recommend a system? Would this even be possible?
Thanks for any suggestions.

You can do IP Mobility with a IPEdge as a APP server

But we are limited to 72 ports correct? I am looking to replace the three hundred analog phones.

with the ipedge you can have 1000 ports and use the UC app and add it to your qsig group. Another option would be to use a SIP app and create sip stations in the ipedge, if you have enough room in your CIXs then no need for the ipedge

I just saw a Toshiba bulletin about new Spectralink phones. https://www.spectralink.com/products/wi-fi/pivot-87-seriesYou can use the CIX for talk paths and an IPEdge App server for the Client. You would probably need about 19 MIPU16 cards (replacing 38 RSTU cards), plus IP Endpoint licenses for each ext on the CIX, and UC client licenses for the App server. As mentioned, it may be smarter to use a full IPEdge EM system for all the mobile users and connect to the CIX systems with Q-SIG (IP Edge Net). You still need all the licenses, plus an IP Edge Net license, but you would not need all those MIPU cards. If you were going with an IPEdge App server solution, then the server hardware was already part of the costs.

The more I think about it, a SIP app may make a lot more sense ( as also mentioned above) in this scenario. You still need all the MIPU cards and IP endpoint licenses, but not an IPEdge server or UC cient license. https://www.counterpath.com/bria-android-edition/ for example has a SIP app for Android and Apple. This seems a bit cleaner and simpler to me, plus probably more economical.

The easiest SIP client app I have used is the Media5-fone app, setup was really easy. We have rolled this out in big box stores for floor associates. Plus with the right configuration you can connect to your CIX's outside the network on a mobile signal.
