Hello All

I have an STS system. The tech familiar with this is long gone. The system all of a sudden starts ringing other extensions. When you try to get a C/O line all you hear on the headset is this fast clicking sound. A power off and restart after 24 hours fixed it for about 4 days and thereafter multiple cards needed to be removed. That lasted about 5 hours and it does the same thing again.

Lithium battery has 3.2 volts

I assume its a power issue but don't know what else to do. I have little to no recall on programming this and the options I have are;

1) I have a KSU however the battery is dead. I can install a new battery and remove the chips from the unit and put them in this one but I think it will loose database in the process is that correct?

2) I can download the file from one and upload to the other but I have not a clue on how to achieve that. I have a program on the old laptop called echo but unclear how to us it.

All phones in office are down. Please help.

Thank you

You are experiencing a power supply cap failure and soon the system will be totally inoperative. If you can keep it up long enough (remove all cards) to download the database you can upload to the replacement unit. You use flash 86 programming and hyperterm. This will require a db9 straight thru serial cable.

Instructions for this are located in the STS prog and ops manual. I can print them here but I cannot provide the admin password which will be needed to access flash 86.

HYPERTERMINAL -- Uploading a Database File
After opening HyperTerminal, and the New Connection screen displays, complete the
following steps:
1. Type a connection name and select the appropriate icon, then click <OK>.
2. When the Phone Number screen displays, change the setting in the Connect Using box
to: Direct to COM1, and then click <OK>.
3. Once the COM1 Properties screen displays, change the settings as shown, and then click
<OK>.
􀂆 Baud Rate = 9600
􀂆 Parity = None
􀂆 Data Bits = 8
􀂆 Stop Bits = 1
􀂆 Flow Control = Xon/Xoff or None
4. Press <Enter> and complete the following fields:
5. On the tool bar, click <Transfer> and select Send File.
6. Change Protocol setting to XMODEM.
7. Click <Browse> to locate database file; double-click on the filename.
8. Click <Send>. Adm> prompt displays when file transfer is complete.
Screen Field Action

(XXXX = default password for online administration)
ADM>, Type program number.
ADM>86 Load database routine.
Type button number.
ADM>Q Upload database.
Press HOLD button.
ADM> Press <Enter> key twice

Thanks for your fast reply. Is the terminology download to get the file to my computer from the switch. or upload.

I am assuming the download will take the file to my computer and using those steps.

I get to here fine

5. On the tool bar, click and select Receive File.
6. Change Receive Protocol setting to XMODEM, and click .

There after just retry errors is all I see. What is the 86 about after the fact.

7. Type database filename and click . The Adm> prompt displays when the file transfer
is complete.
Screen Fields Action
ENTER PASSWORD: Type password: XXXXVODAVI
(XXXX = default password for online administration)
ADM>, Type program number.
ADM>86 Load database routine.
Type button number.
ADM>W Download database.
Press HOLD button.

download is from STS to laptop. If you are not fimiliar with how to access programming for an STS from a pc, you may need to
purchase some tech assistance.

Thank you, I got it back up and running however the data and time is wrong by years. Flash 11 is not allowing me to change the time and date. Am I missing something here?

Enter date and time as year, month, day, hour, min...all two digit and military time. You can dial 692 from the op station to take care of this if you wish.
