A client has a Norstar CICS with a StarTalk Flash voice mail unit. Suddenly calls started going directly to voicemail instead of ringing 6 times first. The night service and DND were both turned off.

What is the likely cause of this problem? Could it be a failing capacitor in the CICS?

What versions of software are both systems?

Did you reboot both systems?

I gather you mean the call goes directly to the Mailbox from Auto Attendant?

The StarTalk Flash has software version 1.9. I am not sure what version the CICS has.

I rebooted the CICS and the StarTalk Flash but the problem persists. An outside call goes directly to a really long message following which the caller can leave a message. If I disconnect the Star Talk Flash, the CICS works OK.

I read that the CICS has a capacitor that can go bad, and then the CICS loses its programming. Can this be the problem?

If the CICS cap went bad and caused a problem, then your time and date would be Jan 1 and 12:00am. AND all of your extension names would be the number of the ext instead of the name of a person, AND all the phones would only show lines 1 & 2.

Did all of that happen? Yes? then the cap went bad. NO - the cap is not the problem.

You answered your own question. If the star talk is disconnected the CICS works fine. So no, it's not the cap in the CICS.

Check your Flash programming...

Possibly a telephone that rings (on incoming calls) is forwarded to voice mail?

If that was the case then:
-If no mailbox behind the phone - Bionic Betty states Person is not available and defaults to the General Mailbox

-If there is a mailbox then it would just go into that mailbox and hear the users greeting

Unless it is an Info mailbox that has the same DN as the one that might be forwarded.

Maybe a good idea to go through all the mailboxes and delete ones not used.
