The client wants to remove an old Nortel system and install POTS phones in his house. What is the easiest way to do this? I assume they have CICS or other small Nortel system wired to 66-blocks. Which pins on the 66-block are for extensions? Can I loop these together and connect them to the C.O. line? Is there a better way?

1) unplug KSU
2) Unplug a phone, install a phone
3) same pins being used now on the block

After disconnecting the Norstar, you would want to Loop all the house cables being in use now, together to a CO line.

I am curious as to why they want to remove it.
You lose Intercom capabilities, VoiceCall(baby monitor), Paging etc.

They are empty nesters living in a big house, and their Nortel system is starting to fail. They call each other on their cell phones instead of using the intercom. They don't want to pay for a new system.

They only want two POTS extensions. I think I will just hook up those two extensions because there may be shorts or noise coming from other extension circuits. If I hook up all the extensions it may just cause problems.

Do you know Norstar and in what way is it failing?

You can loop all the jacks or some, whatever you want.....other jacks should not cause issues/noise.
If there is an issue then maybe that might help the Norstar issue but the depends what the symptom is.

So you have no idea currently if the system is faulty, or the cabling is faulty. Guess what, if you pull out the system & connect dodgy cabling to standard phones, they'll be no better off. Or perhaps the sockets/jacks are faulty?
