Hi

I have been in the phone business since 1991 and have only touched a few NEC systems. I have a long time client for whom I have been able to provide some service (I take care of all their other Tech needs and their new store has an NEC phone system). There is a possibility that their VM system has failed and I need someone who can help me 1. Diagnose the problem 2. Recommend Repair 3. Provide continued support if we have to reprogram for a new VM board. The NEC System is a ELite IPK II I believe. If you have the experience please PM me so we can talk. -bob

Would you know if the system has the Inmail VM chip, or the VMP-U(40) voicemail card? If it is the card, it is a copy of the active voice programming. It had the option of using a CF or HDD. If it has the HDD then it probably has gone bad. There is a jumper on board to select one or the other. I believe you can connect a monitor and keyboard to the front edge and watch what is going on during a reboot. In either case you will need a copy of cosessions to communicate with the VM. A copy of the HW manual will be helpful. It outlines the LED indications on the card.
LED No. Name On Flashing Off
1 AP1 Application Software Green on(Run no errors) Amber (Run
with errors) Red (Not running)
2 AP2 Not Used Not Used Not Used
3 DRIVE Red access Not Used No access
4 CF POWER Red for ETU power Not Used No ETU power
5 LIVE Not Used Red every 125ms in operation Operation shutdown
6 SW3 in RUN Red (do not remove ETU Not Used Not in RUN
7 SW3 in SHUTDOWN Red (ETU can be removed) Not Used Not SHUTDOWN
8 Power Red with KSU power) Not Used No KSU power
9 Development only Not Used Not Used Not Used
10 CH1 Red (Off-Hook) Not Used On-Hook
11 CH2 Red (Off-Hook) Not Used On-Hook
12 CH3 Red (Off-Hook) Not Used On-Hook
13 CH4 Red (Off-Hook) Not Used On-Hook
14 CH5 Red (Off-Hook) Not Used On-Hook
15 CH6 Red (Off-Hook) Not Used On-Hook
16 CH7 Red (Off-Hook) Not Used On-Hook

HelpIfICan - Thank you for your response

I do not recall which VM it is - In the back on my mind I was thinking it was the Inmail on the Chip not the Hard Drive. But I have never looked. The only thing that I have done was assigned another station for programming and then managed a few mail boxes to reset passwords. That was months ago and since I was able to get that far I didn't bother to try and figure out which VM they had

I am going to drive out to the site to look tomorrow morning.

It's about an hours drive, but the only way I am going to know is to go look at the cards..

I will post back here and I am more than happy to pay someone to help me.

The VMS is an Elite Mail VMP - 4 Port (in skin ?)
?IPK VMP(X)-U40 Perhaps

I am thinking the VM may be corrupt or has failed?
No Hard Drive - Flash Memory
This is what I found

Ch 1-4 solid red (off hook?)
App 1 Dark No Led color at all
LED 8 PWR = Red
LED 4 PWR = Red
LED 5 Live = Red
LED 6 RUn = Red

All lights are solid no blinking - this is after 10 mins of being up.

I am not sure what to do.

If I can find some help - I am open to it from this point

I am afraid remote help will not do you any good. It looks like the CF has failed or been corrupted. If you cannot talk to it you cannot fix it. If you have not rebooted the VM card yet I would try that. However it looks like you will need to find or somehow get a replacement CF for the VM. Busy out the card with the front edge switch. Unseat then reseat the card. Then unbusy the switch. Let it try to boot up. You can connect a USB keyboard and monitor to see what is going on, or if it is attempting to reboot.

thank you

I will make another trip back out Saturday to try your suggestion. Then if bad I will order a replacement flash as you suggest.. At that point is when I may need someone to answer some questions or give me some guidance. I found a CF from a local vendor.

1) Is the license or key for the VM saved to the CF on to the card/system?

I do appreciate your input.

I think the connector on the card is a 9 pin for serial communications to connect a computer to. How I can get a copy of the cosessions software?

Thanks Bob

I think the license gets linked to the CF, but not 100% sure.
As for cosessions, it will not work on WIN 7 machines without some messing around. It won't work on a 64 bit machine either. It's hard to find. I will PM you with a possible location to get it.

I tried the reboot on the card again with no luck.

My first guess is going to be the CF is corrupt.
