So, same system as the last post; ESI IVX 128x FSIII. We installed a 12-port LNC card to the cabinet and configured the remote access IP to an internal IP in the same subnet as the rest of our network.

We then configured the extension for the new local IP phone with the MAC address for the phone in question. Upon plugging in the phone, it would display that MAC address for a few seconds, do something in the lower left corner (up arrow, down arrow, EP?), then reboot and attempt to connect to a remote host-- but never connect.

After seeing that, we changed the extension to remote IP. At this point, it connected fine, grabbed the extension name and button mapping, but when we try to dial out from it, the phone says something about call path or talkback path unavailable and then reboots, and seems to get stuck in a boot loop at that point, unable to reconnect to the remote host until we unplug the phone and plug it back in.

We changed it back to local most recently, and all the functions seem to operate normally-- we can page other phones, we get lights indicating extensions in use and the 2-line display shows PRI lines in use as well, all reported accurately. However, we get no audio of any kind on either end of the call from the phone in question. No dial tone, no friendly female voice for programming/help/voicemail, no audio from the other end of the call. There does seem to be a dead air noise though.

The LNC card is connected to a Cisco switch. The phone is connected to the same switch. There should be no firewall or packet filtering or any unusual routing table rules, but we can't rule that out. Any ideas what might be the problem, or where to investigate further for a potential fix?

You probably need to use Phone Programmer to properly program the phone. It's no longer available from ESI.

We are currently using ESI-ACCESS to program our phones over the network. Which program were you mentioning specifically?

It's called ESI-Address. It was designed specifically to program older IP phones.

The LNC card we have has no licenses. The licenses for the lines are built in.

How many IP licenses do you have? If you exceed the number of licenses then the remote phone will not work.

I don't know if this makes any difference, but we are trying to program the phone locally and not remotely.

The way ESI does IP phones on that system is based on the number of licenses you have purchased for the system. You may be trying to add a phone and you don't have the license for it.

ESI-address is still available, but it just does the same thing as connecting the phone directly to the system. ESI address is more for installing a phone at a remote site.
Does sound likely that it may be licensing issue to me as well.
