Greetings,
We have 4 systems connected with SpNet. All the calls from Nodes B,C and D go through Node A via PRI. The LCR digit for all systems is 1 so they can just dial 1-xxx-xxxx. Now they dial 1-911 for emergencies. I would like to play it safe and give them the ability to dial either 911 or 1-911 for emergencies. I'm just not sure of the best way to do it. The systems are all Os7400's some release 4.70 and some release 4.85.
TIA,

John 807

If you're not using 9 at all you could create a virtual station with the number of 911 and do a forward all on that station o 1-911.

**Everyone else should take note of this and make 911 dialable by both 911 and 9-911. Some states are making it law and even in the ones that are not you do not want to be mentioned in lawsuits because someone forgot they had to dial 9-911 because they were panicking, trust me.

Thank you. I'm in the process of trying to get our other clients to select a digit other than 9 to use to dial out. To prevent erroneous 911 calls as the reason for it. If they won't budge on the 9 and will accept the possibility of 911 being dialed by mistake is there a way to do it? I looked in special applications and didn't see anything.
TIA

Yeah it's easy if you're using 9 LCR-

In your LCR routing digits make an entry for 11, length 2 and use a different routing table with a modify to insert a 9. This way they can dial 9-911 or 911.

From what I read, this law from Texas is only set for "public" phone systems. Mostly hotels. I would think schools for sure.
From what I've seen Texas has required this already.

Here's an excerpt from the press release on the new law that went into effect May 2015-
Quote
The law requires direct 911 dialing from multiline telephone systems — like the ones in hotels and offices — where you would normally have to dial another number first to get an outside line.
So basically any phone system that has a code to access an outside line has to be fixed.

We got notice a while back from a corporate lawyer that the FCC is also looking into make this a federal law.

*Edit-

Actually here's a better post about the law-

Quote
Direct access to 9-1-1 service and multi-line telephone systems.

For a multi-line telephone system that provides outbound dialing, Kari's Law requires direct access to 9-1-1 service without the user having to first dial an initial number, digit, prefix or other access number or code before dialing 9-1-1. On March 1, 2016 the Commission on State Emergency Communications adopted Rule 251.16 (Direct Access to 9-1-1 Service) to implement Kari’s Law.

Compliance with Kari’s Law is required by September 1, 2016.
