May seem like a silly question, but is there any way I can get more information on PSETs? I really need this job.

Sounds to me you would be better off at McDonalds than working for those cheap asshats. ack

Other than what's been given to you here I don't think you will find any more information on this obsolete and not usually found system. As was advised, bring the phone to the demarc and see that it works properly. Then you check to see that you have a clean pair from the demarc to the jack. I'm concerned that you can draw dial tone off the digital line. Sounds like there may be a cross to a POTS line someplace.

I think you need to hone your wire troubleshooting skills. Sounds like you don't even have the proper test equipment.

It’s okay. I think you should give it a try if you are that keen on PSETs.

Everything that I learned was OTJ experience.

Pset phones are polarity sensitive so proper polarity is a must at the user end. A lot of times, after a Verizon repair, I would find polarity reversed and would have to reverse it at the cross connect frame. Try getting Verizon to come back and install/repair a line correctly SMH.

I always kept a transformer plugged in at any demark (we have buildings all over the county) for quick testing with a known working phone directly at the NID.

Static on the pair, internal or external, will cause Psets to behave erratically. The OE will "read" the static as the digital signaling and turn on the speaker, make line buttons blink, etc...
