Black front plate. My documentation says port 2 - but I tried both...... couldn't get connected on either one.

From the manual

COM Ports
COM1 is used for Admin. The baud rate is 57600 set for 8/N/1.
COM2 is used for SMDI integration and to view the system boot process. COM2’s baud rate is
9600 set for 8/N/1.

Thank you Steve. I suppose I have not hit the right combo if things to get connected. I will try COM 1 with your settings.......

Funny thing is -I put this one in a few years back- have not had to make VM changes in the last 3-4 years at least.....

If I ever get back into the thing - you can bet I am taking notes and putting a little cheat sheet in the cabinet.

I will post back with success/fail results. Don't want any of you folks to lose too much sleep over my dilemma.....

yesssssss! I got into the thing using the settings Steve Mull provided!

I don't know what I was looking at - but my documentation said I should be connecting to COM 2 on the Stratagy.

Thanks again! :thumb: :thumb:

Like Toolie, I'm trying to get into an IVP8 R2 (Black Front). I'm using:
Stratagy VM Manager v 1.7 on Windows server 2008r2 64bit
My connection is a USB to Null 9 pin Serial cable (StarTech - ICUSB232FTN)
Connected to COM1 on the IVP8 to USB set to COM1
Com1 is set to:
Bits per Sec 57600
Data Bits: 8
Parity None
Stop bits: 1
Flow Control: None

I'm using what I was told is the default Password (PM me to check).
I get the response of:Handshake Failed. Wrong baud rate or other serial link parameter is incorrect.

Cable info: https://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/Serial-Cards-Adapters/USB-to-Null-Modem-RS232-DB9-Serial-Adapter-Cable-DCE-FTDI~ICUSB232FTN

Anyone have any idea what I may not be doing correctly to make this connect?

Try a different baud rate. If the password is incorrect, it will tell you.

I've tried several baud rates but still the same response of:Handshake Failed. Wrong baud rate or other serial link parameter is incorrect. The baud rate for the this connection is 57600 on port 1 of the IVP8r2. The only thing I can think of is that the cable is not correct. It is a Null cable. What cable brand/model numbers are other using that are working for them?

I've yet to connect to the IVP8. The error I'm getting now is "Serial Port Resource - Open (createfile) failed on COM1, error:2"

Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can connect?

I corrected the port settings in device manager to make sure com1 was being used in for the USB serial connections. I'm now getting "Handshake Failed. Wrong baud rate or other serial link parameters is incorrect." I've tried 9600, 19200 and 56700 and still the same error. Does anyone know what other parameters I can check?
