First post. Hi all

Does anyone have experience with making SIP trunks from ESI work on a Toshiba CIX 40 with a GIPU IP card? Any assistance is appreciated.

Sorry I had to chuckle when I read this and wondered why wouldn't ESI tech support help resolve a Toshiba issue, I know that isnt any value or support but it is funny. Let me go through the basics. Do you have Network Emanager to access the system programming? Is the GIPU and CIX40 software up to date? Do you have licenses for SIP trunks?

I would think ESI would absolutely offer tech support on their SIP trunks. This isn't SIP trunking off an ESI KSU but rather ESI selling SIP trunks.

Hi there! Thanks for the responses.

I've been in touch with both ESI and Toshiba tech support, with some success. First, I was able to receive inbound calls. I made some changes per advice I received and now I can make outbound calls, but now inbound goes to fail over number. This whole thing has been kind of like nailing jello to a tree.

We are going to try a different IP configuration as soon as the IT guy gets here.

I've installed and serviced many CIX digital systems, but my experience with the SIP/ISDN side of things is pretty limited.

SSPhone yes, I'm using Network eManager and the CIX firmware is the latest AR 5.20 MT081.00. The GIPU is updated with the latest as well MIPU 0220. SIP trunks are licensed.

Cool sounds like you have a handle on this. You wouldn't believe how many times those 3 questions save a lot of time. I love the reply license why do I need one I have lines on the system now, yes copper lines.

That's pretty funny!

Thanks for the moral support. I'll come back here if I have anymore questions. Peace.

upstateny That's correct. ESI provided SIP trunks into a CIX 40.

There are so many things that can go wrong with SIP trunks. Since the provider is forwarding to a fail over number then it makes me think that either a) the provider doesn't see the SIP trunk registered b) the Toshiba is rejecting the incoming call, or c) the CIX didn't respond to an Invite message. If the call was immediately routed then I would guess a or b. If there was a delay then it could be c.

Wireshark could help clear some of this up. Often the provider can see the SIP messages and should be able provide a little information. It may be good to learn how to run Wireshark properly. Sometimes the firewall can capture Ethernet packets.

What sort of SIP trunk service are you running?
single DID username/password?
a block of DID's with username/password?
a block of DID's with IP authentication?

Are you able to do a Wireshark trace at the GIPU card?

Regards
Carl
