I'm trying to learn a little more about the Toshiba Telecom line of products and I've seen both CTX and DK series of phone systems still in service in a lot of locations and I'm wondering what separates the 2 feature wise? Take the CTX series of phone systems for example regarding multiple call groups, the DK programming manual doesn't seem to have such a feature available? With CO line appearances on the CTX you can either set it for immediate ring, Delayed ringing, or no ringing but Program 39 in the DK doesn't seem to have that feature? Does department ringing exist in the DK system? Also does the DK system allow all phones to have CO line indicators but only certain phones ring for that line? The DK system seems to allow groups access codes for CO lines or a general dial 9 group but can that be changed to 8 or 7 like the CTX system? What other features does the CTX/CIX have over the DK system? What voicemail cards can be used in a DK system? Are BIOU and BDKU cards as well as DKT3000, DKT3200, or DP5000 phones backwards compatible with the system?
Thanks!

I used to work on a CIX100 with an LVMU and then we replaced the VM with an IPedge App Server to upgrade the VM and add ACD. The DK series was the legacy systems. Then came along the CTX and then the CIX and then the IPEdge. The CIX supported more features and was IP cabable. It was programmed mainly through Network eManager. The DK series were mainly programmed through a phone set. Toshiba is a great system and though they have all been discontinued, they will last for a long long time.

There are a lot of feature changes from DK to CIX. Many of the changes are related to IP and SIP. Early versions (before 3.0) of the Strata CIX was actually CTX. They wanted to promote IP communication so they re-branded it to CIX.. In version 5.X the CIX supported IP phones, SIP devices, SIP trunks, and site to site IP connections (QSIG). The LVMU for the CIX integrated better then the IVP8. The DK had delayed ringing, in programs 81 - 89, immediate, 3 rings, or 6 rings. I prefer the Multiple call group, but sometimes setting the ringing on the phone buttons had their purpose. You can use a BDKU in PDKU mode only, and the DKT3000 and DP5000 series phones only worked in DKT2000 series mode on a Strata DK since that is all it knows. I am not sure about the BIOU.

If I read this correctly, Programs 81-89 set station ringing based on CO line number? So for example, if CO Line 1 appearance key was added to a DKT2010 phone in Program 39, would that just flash red or would it ring too? This differs from the CTX as you could make a station ring based on a line appearance key or use a Multiple Call Group or Station Hunt Group. Is the access code 9 for Outgoing CO lines static or could it be changed to 8 or 7 .etc? Just trying to get a grip on the logic of DK phone systems.

Program 39 adds the lines to the keys, but doesn't tell the phones to ring. Programs 81 (for example) would tell each phone to ring on a line. You could program ext 200 to ring immediately in prgm 81 for lines 1 to 4,then program 201 to ring on delay for those same lines in prgm 84. In the CIX you can assign lines to keys and also set the ringing (unless you use multiple ring groups)
