Hello all,

I have a customer that I installed a SL1100 6 to 7 years ago.
All has been working Ok except now the business owner said
that when he is on a silent hold (No MOH) and a second call
comes in that he can hear the conversation on the of the 2nd
call in the background.

To me it sounds like CrossTalk but I never heard that to happen
with a Digital Phone System with Twisted Pair wiring.

So has anyone else experienced this issue and what could be
causing it to happen??

Any thoughts of suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Les

Cross talk can and does happen with telco, you can monitor with your butt set.

Either cross talk on CO side or your CO card is going bad.

Ok, so I am guessing that the only way to prove is to replace
the CO Card and see if it goes away.

I really don't know how a Butt Set would be used to test for
CrossTalk. I can guess but it seems to me to be very challenging.

Thank for the input.

Because the problem is an analog issues of bleed. I have found most times it's a CO issues esp if coming in on copper. Butt set makes it pretty easy to troubleshoot. Bad cabling, ground water something causing the signal to bleed on the blocks.

Coral,

So you are saying that it is more of a Telco problem??

What if it is a Comcast VoIP service??

And it is L1 to L2 or/and L1 to L3 and/or L2 to L3.

This is getting more interesting................... to a point.

Thanks,

Les

Well,

If its Comcast POTS service its an EMTA and not VOIP. It's a different tech. The EMTA could be causing it, bad crimp on a stranded core end rather than a solid core one. Wet, corroded...all kinds of bad. The CO card COULD be bad but bleed isn't usually something we see unless its been damaged by water etc... The hydra cable plugged into it also could be compromised. This is telecom 101 trouble shooting for any tech in the field.

Hi Coral,

Ok, so now I have been re-educated again!! Your terminologies are a very new to this OLD Tech with over 42 plus YEARS of doing this stuff!!

I now know a new term EMTA!!
"Modems with Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapters are cable modems with an analog-to-digital telephone adapter integrated with the modem’s cable network access hardware. This allows the cable modem to utilize analog phones with a cable provider’s Voice Over IP services."

With this new found bit of information it give me a little more to investigate.

If it were not for a customer with ultra sensitive hearing this would not have been on my list of things to learn. Troubleshooting will be a very extra challenge with my deaf in one ear and can't hear out of the other issues. But, I will see what I can do by making a few changes with what I can see.

I may have to just throw it to Comcast and see if they can point at anything other that the phone equipment.
That will depend on the knowledge of their Tech!! taz

Maybe try and convince them to install another Modem could prove or disprove it was the problem??

Thanks for the extra insight!! Very helpful!!

Les
