I have a customer with v9 embedded voicemail. Plays the mailbox greeting and when you leave a message you get cut off at the beep.

Is it a full SD card? If so, what should be deleting in embedded file management?

If you login to system status and look at the alarms it will tell you if voicemail storage is full. It is not limited by space but time so even if the SD card has space the voicemail could be full.

If it is full you can click the voicemail tab in system status then mailboxes to see who has all the messages and have them delete them. You can also go into embedded file management then directory system/dynamic/lvmail and manually delete the oldest messages.

I found a bunch of mailboxes with 180 - 250 messages. For reception which had 180 messages, anytime we tried to log into that mailbox, the whole system rebooted! It happened 3 times. I change the reception name to front desk which I believe defaults the mailbox and things worked normally. Will that user folder be deleted or are those messages still on the sd card? Will they expire eventually?

Unfortunately the messages are all stored in the same folder, It also does not really do any housekeeping other then auto deleting messages after you listen to them. The messages from the old Reception mailbox will probably still be on the SD card.

You can delete them using the embedded file management method, or if you are on site and have a serial cable you can use the below commands.

Use a serial cable from your computer and plug it into the RS232 Port on the rear of the KSU.
You will need to use a Serial Terminal Program like Putty or Tera Term.
Set the Serial Terminal with these values: 38400, 8, N, 1
Baud Rate 38400
Bits 8
Parity N
Stop Bits 1
Once connected, type AT
An OK prompt should return
Type at-debug ( no capitals )
A date-time prompt appear

ivm-help – Embedded Voicemail Commands
ivm-mbox-show – Show mailboxes
ivm-mbox-show nnn Show contents of specified mailbox
ivm-mbox-clear nnn Clear specified mailbox
ivm-msg-del nnn dd/dd/dd hh:mm:ss Deletes specified message
ivm-msg-del-all – Deletes all voicemail messages for all mailboxes including AA prompts

Thanks. This is good stuff. System is 8.0(51), not a 9. With norstar phones!

Apparently the IP office embedded voicemail has no restriction on the number of messages, saved messages, message retention time? No class of service option.

That is correct, unless you upgrade to the voicemail pro you have no control over number of messages or how long it keeps a message. You can set voicemail to email to forward and then it will delete them, this can result in losing messages if the email server is down though.
