The you pretty much have to sit down and see where the price breaks are. Growth especially voicemail and system growth. Storage capacity on said voicemail. Don't let someone shoehorn you into a system you will outgrow in a year and get stuck footing the bill. I personally don't like cutting the competition down because I can show them up by simply doing a demo.

Agree with Coral. Have you seen a live demo? If not do it. Sometimes ease of use rules. Remember any reference a salesman gives you is a pigeon. These are guaranteed(hopefully) good responses. I would roll the dice. See a live demo. If you have ask them to bring you a customer list to review. Certainly there are some names on there you will recognize. Call them right then. No canned lists. Could be interesting. If they truly back their product they have nothing to worry about. The only caveat is if you ask the receptionist what they think of the product ask how long they have been there. Nothing worse than asking a new receptionist what they think of a product if they have no experience and no training. Although I am from Wilson NC originally I have to bail out now. Another NC product- Tim Duncan - is about to go to work. Go Spurs.

personally the samsung is great.

the 500 will get larger than the ipk. can network other 500 (or 100) systems together via t1 or ip.

the samsung is more user friendly. for example. station names. on the ipk it requires you to get into system programming where you can screw things up. on the samsung just go to that phone hit transfer 104 and the user can change it all day long. plus it has call groups. ipk doesn't (without buying an extra card). and users can put themselves in/out of the group at will. like ucd (poor man's acd). little things like that.

don't get me wrong tho.......i like the nec too! it's a great little system! just not as user friendly.

I must agree with chrislebeck, I really like the flexability of the Samsung product. It is very user friendly. The iDCS 500 R2 will do some truly impressive things. Hopefully the dealer you are talking to has showed you a few of the add on products that provide functionality, products like OfficeServe Call, Operator, or the Softphone. If your system has been configured to be IP enabled, the OfficeServe Softphone is really a great product. NEC is a great product, solid and reliable. Personally, I perfer the Samsung.
Good luck in your decision.

I agree with everyone about the Samsung. It is super easy to work with, VoIP capable, highly expandable, great warranty, and great service. Definately go with the Samsung.

I have used both NEC and Samsung phone systems personally.

I must say that between the 2 system. The samsung system wins hands down.

The Samsung idcs 500 is rock solid performance and is an absolute dream to work with. The most user friendly system i've ever seen.

The NEC system look good when new but the phone break all the time and have to be replaced. I've also seen the CPU on the systems fail bringing down the entire system.

The NEC only has 1 things which are good over the samsung.
1.Caller ID on analog phone(but I think samsung is going to release a patch for this).

Other then that, the Samsung wins on all others issues hands down.

The Samsung unit will probably last you over 25 years and program must of the smaller things yourself without possible bringing down the system.

Program MMC 104 will only allow you to put your name on your keyset.

The Samsung has all the features and many of the same parts of the phone system twice the price.
