Hello all,
I would like to know what all is involved in getting our phones to display a Caller ID of sorts. Id prefer to have both outside and inside, but at least inside. Im not even sure this is possible with this extreamly old system.

Also, I would like to know how to leave a message on an internal phone when calling from an internal phone. On my admin phone I can just press one of the function keys that says Leave message. These buttons are not on the standard phones. How can users leave a message to other users using a standard phone?

TIA

The Standard and Executive phones have a key labled MSG. If you call internally and press the MSG key, then hang up and NOT wait for Voicemail, that will cause the lamp to blink for a callback.

As for Caller ID, if your system uses T1 you need it to be PRI. If you use regular loop start lines, you need to pay the phone company for the Caller ID feature, then in your system enable your DSP chip on the Options card for Caller ID Receivers, as well as enabling Advanced CO features in your Premium Feature selection. This is if you system is truly and old one - prior to PAL feature licensing.

I should have said Voicemail. I want people to be able to leave a VM not just a call back.

Our system just uses a bunch of phone lines. Im sure we already have a caller ID service (we pretty much already have everything). How do I enable the 'DSP chip'?

Please forgive my noobish, Im IT and know dittily about phones...

Thanks for the reply Andrea

VM is reached by calling the extension and pressing the MSG key and waiting a few seconds for it to tranfer the call into voicemail. This is what will happen if the system is programmed properly with the message center showing the primary voicemail application.

For the DSP, you need to look at System programming, Cabinets, OPC, then you will see DSP chips 1-4 (probably 2-4 are empty). You should see a pull down box that allows you to make a selection for Caller ID. It may be set to Speaker phones, DTMF, or ?.

Curious - when you look at the circuit cards in your system, do you see cards labeled T1, T1E1, LSC, or GSC??

Depends on the age of the system - OPC and DSPs haven’t been required for Caller ID in a very long time

Been a loooooong time but think V2.X you had a list of options and each had a value. It could be the resources were used for other functions and CID was left off..... I would have to open one to even find it but can see the screen with each item holding a value ...... or maybe I'm confusing it with the Axxent?

I think it was when the CPC was introduced with v8.0. Or was it with the SLC-16+ with v6.0?

It’s been too long, I can’t remember.
